The Light Pirate by Lily Brooks-Dalton
You will instantly fall in love with Wanda as she navigates a terrifying new world and tests her survival skills. While at the core this book is a frightening tale about climate change, the novel feels warm, hopeful, and resilient. One of my favorite books of 2023.
In Order to Live by Yeonmi Park
An absolute, 100% must read. Heart wrenching, harrowing, at times hard to read yet oh-so important. In Order to Live is a true testament of the love between mother and daughter and the power of the individual.
Heart Talk by Cleo Wade
Small, inspiring poems and mantras for when you need to remind yourself of your importance. I have many of her snippets posted around my house but my favorite is, "Lean into the tough stuff. Growth is not always comfortable. This is why we call them growing pains not growing pleasures."
High Achiever by Tiffany Jenkins
A raw and gutsy memoir about the life of an opioid addict. Tiffany's story is incredible and at times, unbelievable. I can't imagine how difficult it was to write and relive this story so kudos to Tiffany. She has an incredible journey and her sobriety is inspiring.
The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
Kind of weird, kind of beautiful. An interesting look into living a full life with no regrets.
When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalamithi
A stunning portrait of a medical professional suddenly facing a terminal diagnosis and the imminent threat of death. A look into finding meaning in the short life we live on this planet. The book paints a beautiful portrait between doctor and patient.
Let Us Descent by Jesmyn Ward
If Jesmyn Ward had a fan club (and I am sure she does), I would run for president. Her style of writing is beautiful and engrossing. Let Us Descend pulls you into the life of a slave on a long, painful journey. Be sure to check out her other books. I love Men We Reaped and Salvage the Bones.
The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah
The type of book you finish in one night. Cora, Ernt, and Leni are complex, layered characters who you both love and hate the entire book. The Alaskan backdrop is spot-on and compliments the survival mode that the Albright family constantly lives in. I promise you that you will root for Leni the entire book.
Home Game by Michael Lewis
Fun fact, Michael Lewis is my cousin. While I cannot relate to fatherhood or having children, Michael Lewis is honest, funny, and entertaining. Home Game is a quick read and a unique look into parenthood from the lens of a father - something often glossed over.
The Shift by Tinx
While I am not a huger influencer fan, Tinx remains a staple on my Instagram feed. She is real, unfiltered, and unapologetically herself. The Shift gives perfect advice to women coming of age in the new, uncharted age. I recommend listening on audiobook.
